STRABAG Romania has commissioned a new asphalt mixing plant in Avrig, Sibiu County, following an investment of 3 million euros. The new production facility is located to serve infrastructure projects in the central part of the country and has a capacity of up to 150 metric tons per hour of asphalt mix, BalkanEngineer.com learned from a company press release.

The plant is manufactured by AMMANN and is designed for an annual production capacity of approximately 220,000 metric tons. It can produce various asphalt mixtures for base, binder, and wearing courses of road pavements. The raw materials used include quarry aggregates, crushed and screened aggregates, and the process configuration allows for the incorporation of up to 10% recycled asphalt. The covered storage areas are equipped with a photovoltaic system with a capacity of approximately 230 kW, and the site features a mobile crushing plant for processing concrete waste from construction and demolition activities at STRABAG projects. After inspection and certification, the resulting recycled materials can be reused in road construction, earthworks, and other suitable applications.

The location in Avrig allows asphalt mixtures to be delivered to several infrastructure projects in the region while maintaining the required laying temperature. The facility’s production and logistics organization enable simultaneous supply to more than three construction sites and deliveries of up to approximately 1,000 metric tons per day.

With the new facility, STRABAG is expanding its own production capacity at a time when a number of road infrastructure projects are being implemented and prepared in Central Romania. The company has been active in the Romanian market for more than three decades and is involved in transportation and civil engineering, building construction, and infrastructure projects in various parts of the country.
