The Bulgarian company VESS Modules has opened its new photovoltaic module plant in Kardzhali, built with an investment of 15 million euros. Production has begun with an annual capacity of 1 GW, and the company plans to increase this to between 2 and 3 GW in the coming years. The new facility creates nearly 200 jobs and will produce for both the European market and customers outside the EU, BalkanEngineer.com learned from an official statement by the Ministry of Economy, Investment, and Industry.

VESS Modules is part of the Clever Synergy Investment Fund (CSIF) and specializes in the production of high-efficiency N-type photovoltaic modules. The new plant operates with automated production lines, where individual stages are monitored and managed through process control systems. According to data presented at the opening, the production time for a single panel is less than 18 seconds.

Modules using N-type TOPCon technology will be manufactured in Kardzhali, with the product range including monofacial and bifacial solutions in various sizes and power ratings. The company already offers models across a wide power range, including modules exceeding 600 W, designed for various types of photovoltaic projects. At the official opening, the plant also received a quality certificate from TÜV SÜD. Production is also geared toward export, with interest already expressed by companies in Turkey, as well as customers from African countries and the United States.

The new facility in Kardzhali is part of VESS’s broader expansion into energy technology manufacturing in Bulgaria. The group is also working on a plant for VRFB (Vanadium Redox Flow) batteries in the “Zagore–Elenino” Industrial Zone near Stara Zagora, designed for long-term electricity storage. Thus, the production of photovoltaic modules is developing in parallel with new capacity for energy storage technologies.

In addition to serving as a manufacturing facility, the plant in Kardzhali will also be used to train young professionals in fields such as electronics and robotics. Once the planned expansion to 2–3 GW per year is achieved, the company will significantly increase its current production capacity and expand VESS Modules’ presence in the European photovoltaic technology market. In addition to manufacturing photovoltaic modules, the company provides services in solar system design, engineering, supply, and construction, as well as solutions related to the maintenance and lifecycle of solar installations.
