Weber Etiketten: Low temperatures alter the behavior of the adhesive and this must be taken into account
Did you know that every glue has a “freezing point”, known as the glass transition temperature? Outside of this temperature range the glue serves as a bonding agent – its molecules “lock” and it loses its ability to affect the pores of the package. This is one of the most common causes for labels to peel off regarding the food industry, especially during the production of frozen foods. How do we know if the chosen labels are suitable for sudden freeze? Why is “the stronger” glue not a solution, when we’re talking about low temperatures and if it is possible to remove this obstacle via engineering methods? For a professional opinion regarding these technical challenges we contacted Weber Etiketten Bulgaria, whose expertise in self-adhesive and cardboard labels provides answers to the most difficult questions in the sector.

Weber Etiketten: Many companies pay for labelling that only lasts for hours due to the wrong thermal transfer ribbon
Why does a label, that looks immaculate once it comes out of the printer, turn into an illegible smudge two weeks later? Usually, the first reaction is to change the printer. However, in the majority of situations it turns out the printer has nothing to do with the problem, with the issue being hidden in the actual structure of the packaging. Some foils contain substances, which literally “wash” the ink from the inside out while the product travels to the customer or remains in storage.

Weber Etiketten: Ecological solutions in industrial labeling are the new strategic horizon for business
In recent years sustainability has been acquiring a new and grander importance. For a lot of companies in different sectors, ecology continues to change from a “moral position” to a “structural factor”, which determines competitiveness, access to markets and even the direction of capital flows. During 2025, investors are already reading ESG reports, retail chains are introducing their own standards, and consumers are looking for transparency in every part of the product, including elements that previously seemed secondary. One such element is the label – the small patch on the package, which contains information, identity and tracking. “Sustainability now dictates business decisions - from the materials we choose, to the product’s journey across the market. For this reason, we focus more attention on the paper, the foil, and the glue for labels, so they can work without problems in every part of the recycling process”, Weber Etiketten commented to BalkanEngineer.com.
