Testing power transformers and equipment in electrical substations requires a different kind of measuring – from measuring wind resistance and transformation ratio, to the analysis of circuit breakers, current transformers, and voltage transformers. "The traditional approach often involves working with several specialized test instruments and different software, as well as the time required for device training, transportation to the site, and setup. Megger’s multifunctional TRAX test system, which combines a range of functions into a single unit, was developed specifically to simplify and accelerate these tests," Megger representatives commented to BalkanEngineer.com.

The concept behind TRAX is based not just on adding multiple measuring functions, but on creating a unified software architecture. The specialized applications turn the system into an instrument, adapted for concrete testing, while the hardware, cables and the accessories ensure necessary flexibility. This way one set can cover a wide range of tasks when measuring transformers and other components of substations, without compromising the functionality characteristic of specialized testing devices.

The key feature of TRAX, is the usage of one software, structured as a set of applications. Every application is meant for a specific type of testing and by default displays only the functions necessary for the specific task. This simplifies work for routine testing, as well as more complex procedures.

"When configuring tests, TRAX can provide connection diagrams and a measurement sequence table. If necessary, the operator can also use a fully manual mode, selecting the test current or voltage, measurement channels, calculation parameters, and the method of presenting results. The Ethernet connection enables automatic software updates and the addition of new features," Megger explains.
