The Chinese company Sungrow will supply a 130 MWh energy storage battery system for Project Blue, one of the largest private solar projects in Albania. The facility will be integrated into a 185 MWp solar park in the Fier region, in the western part of the country. An agreement for the delivery has been signed with the Albanian companies Matrix Konstruksion and Blessed Investment Group, which are jointly developing the project, BalkanEngineer.com learned from a Sungrow press release cited by industry publications.

The contract calls for the delivery of 26 liquid-cooled PowerTitan 2.0 battery systems and 13 MVS3460-LS transformer stations for their connection to the power grid. The batteries will allow a portion of the electricity generated during the day to be stored and used during periods of higher demand or lower solar irradiance. This will provide the developers with greater flexibility in managing energy and feeding it into the grid.

Project Blue is being implemented in phases and, according to the investors, represents the largest privately developed photovoltaic project in Albania. A distinctive feature of the investment is that the 185 MWp solar park is being built without government subsidies. Matrix Konstruksion is an Albanian construction company active in infrastructure and energy projects, while Blessed Investment Group develops investments in energy, real estate, and tourism.

Plans for the next phase call for expanding the photovoltaic capacity by an additional 164 MWp and constructing an additional battery system with a capacity of 80 MW and a storage capacity of 180 MWh. Upon completion, Project Blue will reach a total installed photovoltaic capacity of 349 MWp and an electricity storage capacity of 310 MWh. The value of the contract with Sungrow and the timeline for commissioning the new facilities have not been disclosed.
