Belgian firm Avesta Battery and Energy Engineering (ABEE) has announced plans to build a lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant for the automotive industry in Galati, Romania. BalkanEngineer.com has learned this from Capital.bg. The total value of the investment is estimated at EUR 1.4 billion. The city has a population of about 250,000 and is located near the border with Moldova and Ukraine.
Financing from investment banks and the Romanian government is planned for the implementation of the Romvolt plant in Galati, although the exact amount of state aid remains unknown. This information was presented in July by the Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre De Croix and the Romanian Minister of Economy Florin Spataroux.
The Galatz plant is expected to be operational by 2026 and reach a full annual capacity of 22 GWh with a team of around 8,000 employees. It will produce batteries for the Renault-Dacia and Ford concerns as well as energy storage systems. In the second phase of the project, an additional €200 million investment in battery recycling facilities is planned.
