Albania's Ministry of Economy has launched a consultation to create a centralised digital customs platform that aims to facilitate trade and reduce the administrative burden for businesses. The project will allow trading companies to submit customs documents online, which will significantly speed up the processing of goods and reduce the time for customs inspections, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from an announcement by the Albanian ministry.

The aim of the new system is to speed up procedures, increase transparency and reduce the possibility of corruption. According to the published draft law, the new platform will provide greater efficiency and predictability for businesses, while ensuring better control over customs operations.
The project is supported by the European Union through a $20 million loan, part of a broader initiative to facilitate trade and transport in the Western Balkans region. This loan supports Albania's efforts to modernise its customs system and bring it in line with European standards, as an important milestone in the EU integration process.
Businesses will be directly affected by the changes, so the Albanian government is giving all interested parties the opportunity to send their views and suggestions until 8 April via the public consultation platform.
