Israel-based BIG Shopping Centers has taken over a photovoltaic project in North Macedonia valued at €53 million, Balkanengineer.com has learned from Balkangreenenergynews.com. The company said it will continue to invest in renewables as a driver of growth and sustainability.

Hungarian firm BIG Energia Holdings Kft, a subsidiary of BIG Shopping Centers, will purchase 100% of the shares of two engineering companies from North Macedonia that hold rights to a solar project in an advanced stage of development. They have already received approval from the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission to connect the two solar plants in the Probyschip area to the grid.

BIG Shopping Centers is also in advanced negotiations to purchase an additional 39.4 ha of land near the launched solar project, with the aim of installing a further 35 MW.

Based on the expected capacity, the company estimates gross revenues from the sale of electricity at 7.9 million euros for the first year of operation, after balancing payments to the electricity grid.

The company also expects to receive a construction permit for its 102 MW Urleasca wind farm in Romania in the first quarter of 2023.
