Illumination in production zones with high levels of humidity, dust, or the need for regular cleaning, puts a special focus on lighting equipment and their protection. "For such installations, operating conditions determine both the required degree of protection and the design and materials of the luminaire." commented FILKAB to BalkaEngineer.com. The company puts a focus on the series of high-quality industrial LED lighting TUBA IP69K by polish producer Lena Lighting, designed for industrial sites with high requirements for hygiene and equipment. An IP69K protection rating, multiple diffuser material options, mechanical resistance up to IK10 for the polycarbonate versions, and a luminous efficacy of up to 194 lm/W are part of the series' technical profile. How is the TUBA IP69K constructed, and the differences between the various versions and the characteristics that matter for lighting design, was disclosed by specialists from FILKAB.

The IP69K label in the TUBA title hints as to what environment the lighting equipment has been made for. The body is completely protected against the onset of dust and can endure high pressure washing. During testing, conditions reach a pressure of 100 bars and a water temperature of 80°C. Such stress levels are typical in manufacturing environments where machinery, work areas, and premises undergo regular, intensive cleaning, and the lighting remains part of that same environment.

IP69K is a key consideration when a luminaire will be subject to regular washdowns. However, the selection process also requires an understanding of the broader environment: the cleaning agents used, the risk of mechanical impact, temperature fluctuations, and the substances to which the materials will be exposed. The design of the TUBA accounts for these conditions; its cylindrical housing features acid-resistant steel end components, and a decompression valve is integrated into the luminaire.
