The realization of engineering projects in conservative and strongly competitive markets like in Germany and France requires strict coverage of international industrial standards. In the portfolio of the leading engineering establishment SAT, this success is protected through a series of contracts for modernization of Heidelberg Materials factories in Ennigerloh and Bussac-Forêt, as well as in Devnya, Bulgaria. The activity encompasses designing, delivery and implementation of exploitation of automated systems for controlling and power equipment, and the integrated solutions are responsible for the specific challenges in the factories – changing the old infrastructure without interrupting the production flow, more precise control in real time and automation of critical zones such as heat exchangers and clinker coolers. To analyze how these engineering changes optimize production in one of the most complex industries such as cement, we turned to Systems Automation Technologies – SAT specialists for their point of view, who have finished projects in three European locales.

At the Heidelberg Materials German production base in Ennigerloh, engineering activity by SAT is aimed towards increasing the efficiency of the production process and improving the reliability of the systems. The project encompasses renewing the clinker coolers (MVD) through designing, building and installing critical components. SAT’s technical solution includes:

New medium voltage (MV) circuit breakers and switchgear assemblies (SBAs) for better protection of electrical networks;
Low voltage (LV) distribution transformers and switchboards that optimize power supply and reduce losses;
MCC & PLC (motor control panels and programmable logic controllers) for automation of the new bucket elevators.
