Days before the start of the career forum WorkIn Stara Zagora 2026 (3rd and 4th of April 2026), the energy sector in the region receives serious development possibilities. Smart Energy Group, a key partner and sponsor of the event, enters the forum with a grand investment plan – the development of a new factory for photovoltaic panels around Stara Zagora. Executive Director Todor Georgiev shared that construction should begin at the start of the next year. According to him, the project will launch a completely new production for Europe and will open positions for hundreds of specialists.

The project for the new factory for photovoltaic panels in the region of Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, is a serious claim for technological sovereignty at the European level. In this moment, Stara Zagora is searching for its own new identity outside of the coal sector, and Smart Energy Group, operating in the country under the Smart Solar brand, offers a large-scale alternative based on its 20 years of experience in the renewable energy sector (RES).

As stated by Todor Georgiev, the company has gone a long way to reach its current state – from designing and maintaining to own production. "Smart Energy Group has been in the renewable energy market for 20 years. We design, build and maintain photovoltaic power plants, produce panels in several factories in Turkey and now one is about to be opened in the Stara Zagora region," he points out. This new production center will be integrated into the global structure of the group, which already operates three similar facilities in our southern neighbor.

The range of the investment is impressive, not just because of the financial parameters, but also because of the social footprint which it will leave in the region. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Innovation and the local administration and is expected to generate employment for about 800 people in the first period. “This is an extremely interesting project, as there are almost no such factories in Europe – they are about to be created, and we will be a new beginning in this area,” Georgiev explained.
