The municipal administration of Subotica (Serbia) has officially issued a building permit for the first phase of construction of ElevenEs' mega factory for the production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The document, approved through a unified electronic procedure in mid-January 2026, allows preparatory work to begin on a site covering nearly 18 ha, BalkanEngineer.com learned from eKapija.

The investment, estimated at a total of 1 billion euro, envisages the construction of a high-tech complex with a total built-up area of over 24,000 m2. The future plant will specialize in the production of LFP cells, known as "blade" type, which do not contain nickel and cobalt and are widely used in electric vehicles and stationary wind and solar energy storage systems. With a planned production capacity of 1 MW of batteries per year, the facility in Subotica is expected to be the first factory of its kind on the European continent, providing around 1,000 new jobs.

The development of the project follows the successful pilot phase launched by ElevenEs in 2024 and is part of the company's ambitious strategy to create a network of gigafactories, including a potential expansion of operations in Poland. The technological process at the new center will cover the entire cycle from electrode production to the assembly of finished modules, meeting the growing global demand for safer and more sustainable battery technologies.
