The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission of North Macedonia (ERC) has issued 267 licenses for the production of electricity from renewable sources in 2022, BalkanEngenieer.com has learned from Balkangreenenergynews.com. This shows that the country is in the "heat" of investments in "green" energy. The total energy capacity of the new power plants is over 150 MW.

The largest investments are in solar capacities with a total of 106.5 MW. The ERC has also approved facilities with 36 MW of wind power, 7.2 MW of small hydropower and 2.5 MW of biogas.

With the installed capacity in 2022, it is possible to meet the needs of 65,700 households with average electricity consumption.

2022 saw for the first time a "record expansion" in the private sector's investment drive in renewable energy sources. The trend is expected to continue in 2023. Between 250 MW and 300 MW of RES will be added to the grid in the new year.
