Ford Motor Co. announced their intentions to relocate the production of the compact SUV EcoSport from India to a new plant in the Romanian city of Craiova, learned BalkanEngineer.com by detroitnews.com. Initial estimations indicate that the operation of relocation will cost about 200 million euros to the company, added by Ford.

The automaker from Dearborn plans to move the production of EcoSport from Chennai, India, to Romania in the autumn of 2017. The plant in India will continue to produce EcoSport for the domestic market and for export, clarified Ford, but the majority of SUV models for the European market will be manufactured mainly in Romania.

"The sales of EcoSport have increased by nearly 30% this year and based on the positive outlook for market growth in the car class SUV, we believe this is the right time to move manufacturing in Europe and to take advantage of the excellent workforce in Craiova", said Jim Farley, president and CEO of Ford for Europe.

The Ford company has a plant in Craiova since 2008, which currently assembles the multifunctional model B-Max. The factory also produces the one liter EcoBoost engines for the company. The statement also says that Ford plans to launch on the European market five new SUV and crossover models in the next three years.
