The Austrian industrial group Palfinger, a world leader in the manufacture of cranes and lifting systems, is considering expanding its production in Bulgaria. BalkanEngineer.com has learned this from a press release issued after a meeting between the company's management and President Rumen Radev.

Palfinger, whose operations in Bulgaria began more than two decades ago, already operates two plants - in Tenevo and Cherven Bryag - as well as a Global Business Services Center to be opened in Sofia in 2021. During the discussions held at the presidential institution, concrete steps towards increasing capacity and expanding the company's product portfolio in Bulgaria were discussed.
According to Palfinger representatives, Bulgaria stands out for its competitive advantages, including geographic proximity to key markets, stable infrastructure and a prepared workforce. However, the company points to the need for further investment in vocational education and infrastructure connectivity as important prerequisites for further expansion.
An interesting moment of the meeting was the presentation of Palfinger's experience in the development of lifting equipment for the needs of the defense industry. The topic coincides with the growing role of Bulgaria in this sector, where the last year has seen a sharp increase in the production and export of military products.
The company's global business centre in Sofia already provides services in areas such as finance, human resources and IT support, and the team is due to expand in 2025 with new specialist units focused on digitisation and automation of internal processes.
