Romanian company Romgaz resumes negotiations with Ameropa for the acquisition of fertilizer producer Azomures

Romanian state-owned energy giant Romgaz is resuming negotiations with Swiss group Ameropa on the potential acquisition of Azomures, one of the country's largest mineral fertilizer producers. The decision was confirmed after a meeting between Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Boloian and representatives of the two companies. The talks will be conducted entirely on a commercial basis, with the aim of finding a market solution to restore the plant's full production capacity, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Romania-Insider.com.

At present, the main debate in the negotiations remains the valuation of the assets. According to market sources, Swiss owner Ameropa expects a price that is nearly twice as high as Romgaz's initial non-binding offer. For the Romanian state-owned company, which is also a major supplier of natural gas, the acquisition of Azomures represents a strategic opportunity for vertical integration and ensuring stable consumption of its own resources for the production of higher value-added products.

The future of Azomures is of paramount importance to the agricultural sector in the region, as the plant is a key supplier to farmers in Romania and neighboring countries. The successful completion of the deal would ensure energy and food security, while giving Romgaz a new role in the chemical industry. Negotiations are expected to enter a decisive phase in the coming months, when updated financial valuations will be presented.
