Grundfos building services pumps optimize the HVAC system at the Taipei Dome – Taiwan's first indoor baseball stadium

With a capacity for close to 50,000 visitors, Taipei Dome is the first standard closed baseball stadium in Taiwan and one of the most significant architectural projects of the country in recent years. Since 2024, the locale has been welcoming large national and international sport events and concerts. In order to provide a comfortable environment and effective control of energy, an HVAC system is required in order to manage the energy loads, while at the same time using resources effectively. Grundfos pump systems for building installations play a vital role in the execution of this task, complemented by high-efficiency water supply solutions.

To meet the needs of Taipei Dome, Grundfos suggested a distribution pumping system for chilled water, combined with high-efficiency pumps for the primary circuit and the general water supply system. Here are the details regarding the project:

-             Optimization of the primary circuit: The pumps for the primary circuit in the machine department of the chiller installation, including modules LF and LS by Grundfos, are sized solely according to the required flow rate and pressure of the chillers, thereby avoiding the typical excess pumping capacity typical of traditional pumping systems.

-             Decentralization of the secondary circuit using separate pumps: The second circuit uses a distributed architecture, in which each main air handling unit (AHU) is equipped with its own intelligent TPE pump, controlled based on the AHU's supply or return air temperature – this allows for precise adapting to the cooling consumption. For the smaller ventilation convectors, a group control is applied, with pump operation controlled by maintaining constant or proportional pressure

"Decentralization eliminates the need for complex regulating valves while ensuring continuous, automatic system balancing. This reduces the complexity of the HVAC installation and creates the conditions for maximum operational efficiency," Grundfos commented.
