It is hard to value a new piece of software for production just by the number of new functions. For CAM programmers the most important question is how many operations will not be included in the preparation of the next detail, on what stage will the limitations of the machine be discovered and how much work remains between the finished trajectory and the executable NC code. A large portion of the improvements in NX for Manufacturing 2606, introduced by Siemens in June 2026, are also aimed in this direction.

For the new additions we spoke with SpaceCAD – a leading engineering company that has been working as a partner with Siemens Digital Industries Software since 1996. "With a new version of NX for Manufacturing, the key question is how many steps have been eliminated from daily CAM programming. NX for Manufacturing 2606 aims to foster a closer link between programming and the machine and to minimize manual tasks throughout the entire process," SpaceCAD commented to BalkanEngineer.com.
NX for Manufacturing 2606 encompasses the different stages of preparation in production – from the choice of strategy and cutting instrument to the inspections of the trajectory, machine measuring and the control of production data. A good example is the expansion of AI Make Machining Suggestion at NX X Manufacturing. In addition to suggestions based on production history and available tool libraries, version 2606 adds a third option where generative AI analyzes the geometry independently of previous strategies.
Machine Powered Programming strengthens the link between CAM operations and the specific machine. Trajectories can be altered based on the limitations of the machine even during programming, allowing for inconsistencies to be discovered before executing operations.
There are also changes to how the work itself is managed. Background Generate calculates toolpaths in a secondary NX process while the programmer continues editing geometry or preparing subsequent operations in the main session.
