Biomedical devices must meet high standards for quality and reliability, and with good reason. The well-being of the patients relies on the devices functioning as intended. For this reason, manufacturers of systems for testing such products must ensure that all solutions they develop meet the highest standards in terms of quality, precision, and functionality. Most biomedical devices are not required to be replaced or retrofitted in a short span of time, thus they are expected to work flawlessly for years. Components in biomedical equipment must be of the highest quality, reliable and authentic, as well as available in the long term.

"A leading manufacturer of biomedical device testing systems found itself in serious trouble when it learned that a critical microprocessor in its system was about to be withdrawn from production. The increased demand for this semiconductor element led to the depletion of available quantities within the market, and the original manufacturer (OCM) announced the end of the product life cycle.”, was commented to BalkanEngineer.com by Rochester Electronics - world-renowned distributor and one of the largest manufacturers of semiconductor solutions in the world.

This left the manufacturer with two options: either redesign, retest, and recertify the model’s design—a process that would be significantly expensive and time-consuming—or somehow find a long-term source for this vital component.

Rochester Electronics is a global manufacturer specializing in ensuring future availability of critical components embedded in systems that are nearing the end of their life cycle or are about to be withdrawn from production. “Our solution in this case for this biomedical customer was to replicate the original component, thus avoiding a costly redesign,” explained Rochester.
