As we have discussed before, the cooling of data centers is a primary focus of the IT industry, as such a facility can generate a considerable amount of heat, which needs to be mitigated. The owners of data centers are faced with the necessity to control this process in the context of even higher requirements for energy efficiency and sustainability, and among them is NorthC – a company, which has over 10 data centers in the Netherlands and several facilities in Germany and Switzerland. At the high-tech campus at Eindhoven, NorthC integrates innovative solutions Grundfos MIXIT, with the goal of optimizing the cooling process. How was the project conducted and what were the results, BalkanEngineer was informed by Grundfos.

The technological company NorthC aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, working to identify several key factors: green hydrogen, renewable energy, waste heat reuse, artificial intelligence and modular construction. With this, the company integrates an innovative concept for cooling at the Eindhoven facility, exactly cooling on a chip level, initially using water as a cooling agent, "Each chip is equipped with a small cooling block, and cooling water circulates through the server through flexible pipes to extract heat directly from the source. This allows the temperature to change much faster and over a wider range. It is in this application that MIXIT is a solution that responds with extremely high speed and accuracy," commented Grundfos

Grundfos MIXIT offers an intelligent plug and play solution, which allows for quick and easy setup of optimal mixture in HVAC installations. The device is integrated with a temperature controller, a two- or three-way valve, electric charge, balance valve and sensors. This way, it allows the installation and commissioning time of the system to be reduced by up to 50%. The construction of the mixing loop now requires only two components – MIXIT and a circulation pump, and for this specific site the Grundfos Magna3 model was chosen.
