Enjoyed by young people as well as adults, bonbons are actually quite difficult to produce, because sugar creates challenging production conditions. "Dust control in the production of sugar candies is one of the most complex challenges in the food industry. The explosive nature of sugar, its stickiness and abrasiveness, as well as the limited space in production areas require a highly efficient and compact solution. It is such a system that Camfil is implementing in one of the largest confectionery factories in Turkey," Camfil - an established leader in clean air solutions for the industrial and commercial sectors - told BalkanEngineer.com.

Sugar is a sticky, abrasive powder with a high risk for combustion in a dynamic production environment, which requires the usage of anti-explosive equipment and safe venting, in accordance with European directives regulating safety in environments with a risk of ATEX explosions. In these situations it is necessary to use exceptionally durable filtration materials and constructions, capable of withstanding mechanical load.
The client – a global confectionary manufacturer operating in over 150 countries – expanded its production in Turkey in 2020, adding a new packaging line for soft jelly candy with a sugary cover. To guarantee safety, cleanliness and a continuous production process, the company requires reliable systems to syphon dust, which can work effectively in limited spaces and with strong hygiene requirements.
After analyzing the production conditions, Camfirl suggested the Gold Series X-Flo industrial dust collector, which combines high efficiency, modularity and safety. To achieve this project, five GSX02 modules were installed, each with a capacity of 2 000 m³/h, which ensure stable airflow and reliable dust removal on the entire production line.
"The compact design of the equipment allows installation in limited space, and the special low-profile suction system (Low Boy configuration) reduces the overall height of the system to 3.5 m, which facilitates servicing and integration into the existing infrastructure," Camfil further explained.
