The BAR100 series of zener barriers from Unisyst Engineering are highly reliable barrier devices designed to provide a safe connection between field equipment and other systems in volatile environments. “They are designed with the purpose of guaranteeing reliable and safe performance of measuring, control and communication circuits connected to the volatile area.” BalkanEngineer.com was informed by specialists from the leading production, engineering and trade company.

“BAR100 zener barriers limit the energy that can enter an area with a potentially explosive atmosphere by preventing sparks or overheating of equipment and keeping voltage within safe limits. They are designed as two-stage voltage limiters, including high-quality zener diodes and additional protective elements," explained Unisyst Engineering.

The series BAR100 comprises several variants, compatible with different types of industrial systems.

  • Current loops 4–20 mA;
  • Thermistors;
  • Serial interface RS485 with power supply;
  • Pulse signal multiplication.

The first three variants are offered as versions for integration in electronic devices, as well as for mounting on DIN rails, while the fourth variant is available only for DIN installation. The BAR100 series complies with all European explosion-proof equipment standards and is marked in accordance with Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX) for products intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

"BAR100 can be used in various groups of electrical equipment, with the technical documentation describing in detail parameters such as: permissible capacitance and inductance, maximum power consumption, current and voltage limits, equipment categories according to ATEX, etc. These parameters ensure that the barriers can be implemented in a wide range of systems, including those with high safety requirements," commented Unisyst Engineering.
