In North Macedonia, Limak Group, together with strategic partners, the Ministry of Education and Science and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), provided scholarships for 20 female students studying in engineering faculties through the Global Engineer Girls (GEG) initiative. This is what BalkanEngineer.com learned from Denar.mk. The female students are enrolled in the electrical, mechanical, construction and information faculties of state universities from all over the country.

The main goal of the GEG initiative is to provide support for girls and young women and increase their participation in STEM fields that have historically been dominated by men. Through its activities, GEG aims to reduce the gender gap in STEM fields in North Macedonia and increase gender equality in society. Another goal of the project is to encourage companies to take a proactive approach to addressing gender inequality in their work area and in their organizational structures.

Of the 169 female engineering students who expressed interest in the program during the three-week application period, successful applicants were selected based on their academic achievements and participation in extracurricular activities. The selected female students will use the scholarships as support during their studies.

In addition to scholarships, the Global Engineer Girls initiative also provides an extensive mentoring program, as well as skills development training and internship opportunities. All participants will have their own mentors, experienced professionals who will help young female engineers, who often face the need to overcome gender bias, to follow and achieve their ambitions.

The first trainings will start in May this year. and will include various soft skills workshops that will improve the communication, teamwork, relationship building, problem solving and leadership skills of female participants. During the summer period, the girls will have the opportunity to gain more knowledge in the field of green energy and construction, while gaining practical engineering knowledge through an optional internship.
