Romania accelerates construction of 300 km of road infrastructure

15 january 2025

Romania plans to put into operation some 300 km of motorways and expressways in 2025, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from a statement by the Romanian Road Agency (CNAIR). A large part of them are part of the "Moldovan highway" A7, connecting Ploiesti and Pashkani. Key sections, such as Mizil - Pietroasele and Buziou - Vadou Pashii, which include an impressive bridge over the Buziou River, are expected to be completed.

Other important projects include Section 4 of the Tigweni-Courtia de Argesh section of the A1 motorway, which will include the country's first motorway tunnel. This section is expected to be completed ahead of schedule in 2027.

Parts of the Bucharest Ring Road (A0) and two new expressways, the Braila-Galati and Tureni-Turda expressways, will also be opened in 2025.

Two thirds of the projects are being implemented by the company UMB, which has already completed 100 km of motorways in the country in 2024. With these investments, Romania will significantly improve its transport network and regional connectivity, which are of great importance for business not only in the country but also in the Balkans.
