The Slovenian transformer manufacturer Kolektor Etra has expanded its plant in Barajevo, near Belgrade, Serbia, with a new production hall built with an investment of 14 million euros. The facility covers an area of 3,100 m² and is equipped with specialized installations for drying transformer windings and active components, as well as a bridge crane with a lifting capacity of 70 metric tons. With this expansion, the company is increasing its production capacity for European markets, BalkanEngineer.com learned from an official announcement by the Serbian Development Agency.

The new facility is part of an investment program that began with the construction of a high-voltage testing laboratory costing 7.5 million euros, which opened in 2024. Together with this latest investment, the total funds invested in the two facilities amount to 21.5 million euros. The production equipment includes a hot-air circulation oven for drying the windings and a vacuum oven for processing the active parts of the transformers. A system for transporting heavy products on an air cushion is also planned, which facilitates their movement between the various production operations.

Kolektor Etra Beograd manufactures oil-filled power transformers with a capacity of up to 40 MVA and a voltage of up to 145 kV, as well as special transformers tailored to individual customer requirements. Upon completion of production, the products undergo final testing in the company’s in-house high-voltage laboratory. The Serbian company’s main markets are in Western and Northern Europe, including Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Austria, the Netherlands, Norway, and France. The company is also expanding its presence in Switzerland.

The expansion of the production facilities will continue in the coming years. By 2028, Kolektor Etra plans to build an additional winding production facility, which could increase the company’s annual capacity to over 200 power transformers. At the same time, the company anticipates an increase in production and revenue by 2030, as well as the creation of approximately 50 new jobs. If these plans are implemented, the number of employees at the plant could reach approximately 230.
