Cable networks expand and become increasingly more complicated. Underground installations become bigger, and cables from renewable energy sources cover a huge radius with long cable routes. Maintenance time shortens, expectations for safety become higher, and time spent is even more expensive than ever. At the same time, technical teams have different qualifications and experience, which means the equipment needs to be intuitive, consistent and safe for everyone that uses it. “All of these factors make test and measurement equipment that supports smooth processes and avoids unnecessary work operations indispensable. From high-voltage substations to renewable energy sites, Megger’s new DCI3 system delivers speed, safety and security in a single, portable solution – helping teams work smarter and safer,” the company told BalkanEngineer.com.

Identifying cables should be an easy task. But everyone who has worked with electricity transmission and distribution networks, knows that such a thing is a rarity. It might be necessary to work in a section that is so tight you can barely maneuver inside it, to work in rain, when the wind blows opposite your work site, onset of dust caused by moving traffic, or control cabinets with compact geometry that are clearly not designed to fit your instruments.
“Even a simple task like checking a properly connected cable can turn you into an acrobat, juggling multiple tools: one for cable identification (CI), another for phase identification (PI), a third for live work (LV)… all while knowing that one wrong cut could cut the network. “The DCI3 is designed for these environments – not as a laboratory tool, but as a tool suited to the way and conditions in which technical teams work,” Megger said.
