In modern electrical energy infrastructure, reliability of the equipment is just one part of the challenges surrounding the successful exploitation of the network. Also important is technical upkeep, fast reactions when challenges arise and long-term partnership between supplier and client. Exactly this kind of partnership Baur and Chilean company SAPRI are trying to forge, turning technical solutions in real benefits for everyday work. "Thanks to Baur’s PHG 80, PD-TaD 80, Syscompact 2000, and shirla testing equipment, the Chilean company has managed to improve the quality of its services and its operational efficiency," commented RS Electro—a Baur partner—regarding this case study for the readers of BalkanEngineer.com.

"As the need for specialized testing of medium-voltage cables grew, SAPRI encountered limitations with its existing equipment. The company lacked instruments capable of reliably testing cables with large cross-sections and significant lengths, which constrained its fault-location capabilities. In many instances, the only solution was physically excavating the cable—a procedure that increases costs, extends repair times, and creates additional risks for network operations," noted RS Electro.
The deciding change happened after Baur’s high-performance testing and diagnostic technologies began to be used. Combining the PHG 80 portable device and the PD-TaD 80 partial discharge diagnostic system, together with the Syscompact 2000 and Shirla fault location units, allows the company to handle cable inspection in a completely new way.
"Thanks to these solutions, SAPRI now has the capability to perform precise and reliable testing of power cables at a very low frequency of 0.1 Hz, while simultaneously conducting dielectric loss factor measurements and partial discharge diagnostics," explained RS Electro.
