A high-speed Clock Generator used across a range of industrial applications was discontinued by the Original Component Manufacturer (OCM), despite continued demand for the device and its use in various production processes. This presented end customers with the challenge of securing a reliable, long-term source of supply required to ensure the uninterrupted operation of existing applications.

In response to situations such as this, Rochester Electronics, a global leader in semiconductor solutions and a 100% authorized distributor, maintains finished inventory of these devices to provide continued product support. However, when demand increases significantly, as was the case with these Clock Generators, available inventory can become insufficient to meet market requirements, creating the need for a longer-term alternative to ensure continuity of supply.

“As a licensed semiconductor manufacturer, Rochester has the capability to manufacture devices that are no longer produced by the OCM. This makes the company’s manufacturing services particularly well suited to situations where long-term solutions are required to ensure continuity of supply,” Rochester told BalkanEngineer.com. “The company has extensive in-house manufacturing capabilities, including device replication, semiconductor assembly, reliability testing, and electrical testing,” they added.

At the beginning of the program, the initial die were selected from probed SiGe (Silicon Germanium) wafers. Based on wafer maps provided by the supplier, the devices were inspected and assembled into Quad Flat No Lead (QFN) packages. The packages were fully developed at Rochester’s manufacturing facilities, with particular attention paid to the layout to optimize performance at high operating frequencies.
