Grundfos TP pump systems reduce electricity consumption by over 422,000 kWh annually at a British stadium

Stadiums are high tech environments, requiring safe, reliable and effective systems. The effectiveness of infrastructure is a key factor for sustainable functions regarding sport based locations, where every installation needs to operate flawlessly, precisely with minimal resource consumption. The managing body of a large UK stadium recently took to replacing its pump systems, with this project highlighting how targeted improvements to the installations can lead to significant energy saving, while at the same time guaranteeing operation even during fluctuating and intense workloads.

After thorough diagnostics, it is revealed that the current old pumps with fixed speeds have been the reason for the high energy consumption and increased costs. This is why they’ve been replaced with highly efficient Grundfos TP pumps, equipped with CUE frequency regulators, which allow operation according to the actual consumption and the current needs of the system. Due to this change, annual electricity savings of over 422,000 kWh as well as a reduction in carbon emissions of more than 100 tons of CO₂ are expected, with the investment payback period calculated at just over one year.

Specialists say that old equipment is responsible for mounting energy costs and that varying operating conditions put pressure on the efficiency of the installations, which often lead to accelerated wear and the need for replacement. “The project demonstrates that even relatively easy-to-implement upgrades can lead to rapid improvements in energy efficiency and significant optimization of operating costs," the company added.
