In the first and second part of our conversation with Smart Solar Technologies, part of the Smart Energy Group, we highlighted the new economic frame of the solar industry for 2026, namely, the end of cheap Chinese imports and the rise of hybrid baseload power systems. In the third part of our conversation, we put the focus on technologies towards people and were looking for answers to questions such as: What skills will new leaders in the energy sector need? Where do the Balkans stand on the map of the future, and are we ready for the pace of the energy transition? Let’s see what the leading company had to say.

The global energy transition requires many new specialists. How will the industry cope with the shortage of professionals in 2026?
The shortage of qualified workers is real but can be overcome if the sector accepts the development of their teams as a strategic investments, rather than a byproduct. At Smart Solar Technologies, we invest in our own training programs and cooperate with professional institutions, to ensure actual practical experience during training.
What knowledge should a green energy expert possess today?
Today’s expert on green energy is something more than just a good engineer – they need to see the whole picture. As well as the technologies for production and storage, now it is required to understand the economics of energy, regulation and even carbon footprint. It is important to know how a project is financed and what returns it provides over a period of time.
If we look at the map of Europe in 2026, our region appears as a dynamic hub for renewable energy. Is it possible for us to become technology leaders?
Yes, but only if we move beyond the simple installation of capacity toward domestic manufacturing, engineering solutions, and integrated energy systems. Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, and Romania are situated at a strategic crossroads between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The region combines vast renewable energy resources with growing consumption and access to multiple markets.
