Serbian supermarket chain Mercator-S, part of Croatia-based Fortenova Group, said it plans to open a new logistics and distribution centre in the Serbian capital Belgrade in a bid to improve the reliability of its supply chain and the efficiency of its outlets. BalkanEngineer.com has learned this from SeeNews.com.
Mercator-S will invest more than €20 million ($21 million) to purchase equipment for the new centre and hire 500 drivers and warehouse operators.
The distribution center, which will span 68,000 m2, is the company's largest investment in ten years. It will be part of CTPark Belgrade City. The centre will provide distribution for the company's network of 339 stores under the IDEA, Roda and Mercator brands in more than 80 cities in Serbia.
