"We look at the transition from 3D scanning to CAD as insurance for business," experts from SpaceCAD told BalkanEngineer.com. The logic is more than practical: when a firm has a precise digital model of its critical details, it stops relying on the physical condition of the old matrix or instruments. Physical inventory is turning into a digital asset, which can be sent to production all around the world via a single email. "It doesn't matter whether a CNC milling machine or a 3D printer is used - control over the parameters is complete," the company adds. As an established partner with the industry at home, SpaceCAD specializes in the integration of high class software solutions, and their experience in reverse engineering allows precise work even with complex and heavily worn geometries.

To understand the real value of technology, there must be a separation between the simple shooting and creation of a working model. Regular scanning generates a so-called point cloud – a static image, which is practically unusable for production machines. SpaceCAD’s approach, however, turns this raw data in parametric geometry – the language which CNC machines communicate with 3D printers.

Exactly this “technological translation” provides opportunities for the engineer to enter the structure of the model and change it. If a matrix displays vulnerability in a particular zone, besides being copied, it can be improved in a digital environment before release. This way reverse engineering stops being just a method for duplication and becomes an instrument for development. "Instead of being limited by the state of the existing tool, companies are given the freedom to adapt it to new materials or higher loads. The entire production cycle is optimized at the software project level," the company explains.
