North Macedonia begins the construction of the Eastern part of Corridor number 8 - the railway section between Kumanovo and Kriva Palankar, Balkanengineer.com learned from Economy.bg. The transport corridor is of strategic importance because it should connect Italy, Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria and create an intermodal link between the Black Sea and the Adriatic Sea.

The European corridor starts from the Italian port of Brindisi, continues to the Albanian port of Durres–Tirana–Skopje–Kumanovo–Belyakovce–Kriva Palanka–Deve Bair–Guyeshevo–Sofia–Plovdiv–Varna/Burgas. On the territory of North Macedonia, the work on the first two sections of the railway Corridor 8 - from Kumanovo to Belyakovce and from Belyakovce to Kriva Palanka should be completed by the end of 2025, for which all the necessary funds have been secured and the land has been expropriated.

The section from Kumanovo to Belyakovce, which is 31 km long, will be built by the Shtrabag consortium. The deadline for the completion of this section is 24 months, but the company believes that it will be completed in a shorter time. The second section will be completed by the Turkish company Gülermak within 36 months. By the end of the year, a tender must be announced for the selection of a contractor for the third section from Kriva Palanka to the border with Bulgaria.
