According to preliminary data from the National Bank of Serbia (NBS), in the first nine months of 2022, the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Serbia amounted to 3.011 billion euros, which is slightly more than in the same period of the previous year, when a total of 3.002 billion euros invested. According to the NBS, foreign investments in Serbia were productive, geographically diversified and realized mainly in export-oriented companies. More specifically, from 2010 to the second quarter of 2022, foreign direct investments made by the EU amounted to EUR 19,204 billion, from China (including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau) - EUR 3,281 billion, from the Russian Federation - 2,473 billion euros and from the United States, 733 million euros.
Bojan Stanic, deputy director of the strategic analysis sector of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, says that China is emerging as the No. 1 investor and is creating a foundation for the future. However, the EU is still the main investor for the past three years, with around 56 percent of all investment coming from there.
