In late March this year, the Albanian government announced a plan to modernise the Elbasan industrial complex, which will include infrastructure improvements and expanded business opportunities. The project, to be implemented by 2030, aims to attract new industries such as communications technology, data centres and logistics companies, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from the official announcement.

The industrial complex covers 340 ha, 105 ha of which are owned by 53 private companies, mainly manufacturers. According to the Minister of Local Government,Arber Maznicu, the businesses in the complex generate an annual turnover of about 1 billion euros, which is 5% of the country's GDP.
The project will be implemented in collaboration between the private sector and the Municipality of Elbasan through the Business Improvement District (BID) model, which provides for joint management and investment. Details of the financing for the upgrade were not disclosed, but the initiative is expected to strengthen Elbasan's economic role and create new investment and job opportunities in the region.
