The Romanian investment company Paval Holding, owner of the home and building goods chain Dedeman, has acquired the Greek chain Praktiker Hellas. This is what BalkanEngineer.com has learnt from publications of the Greek edition Kathimerini. The deal is worth between 120 and 130 million euros and represents the Romanian brand's first foray outside the country.

Praktiker Hellas has 17 stores, over 1,200 employees and an online platform with over 50,000 items. The company, which has been present on the Greek market since 1991, was previously owned by Canadian fund Fairfax, which acquired it in 2014 for pure investment purposes. Paval Holding, for its part, also signed a preliminary agreement to purchase the properties that currently house the stores operated by Praktiker.
Dedeman is the largest DIY (do-it-yourself) chain in Romania and a leading player in the region, with 64 stores and over 13,500 employees. The company plans to develop the Praktiker Hellas network without making any abrupt organizational changes, retaining the Greek team and the current operational structure. According to a statement by chairman Dragos Pavel, the move into Greece is the realisation of a long-standing ambition and signals the next phase in the group's international development.
