Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer JMEV has announced that it will start construction of a new plant in the Serbian town of Sremska Mitrovica in the summer of 2025. The project is part of the company's strategic expansion in Europe and will provide new opportunities for both the region and the automotive industry in Serbia, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from a statement by Brankica Zjalic, JMEV's representative in the country.

"Having received all the necessary permits at the end of last year, we are now ready to start construction this summer," said Brankica Zjalic. The plant is expected to start producing electric vehicles at the end of 2026. According to plans, between 3.000 and 5.000 electric vehicles will be produced each year, depending on the demand of the automotive market in the European Union and beyond.
The location of the plant in Sremska Mitrovica was not chosen by chance. This region of Serbia is home to significant industrial complexes producing automotive components, making it ideal for the new venture. The project will be an important economic stimulus for the region, providing new jobs and attracting additional investment to the country, local analysts believe.
JMEV, founded in 2015 in the Chinese city of Nanchang, is rapidly gaining popularity as one of the leaders in the electric vehicle industry. In 2019, the company was restructured into a joint venture after French auto giant Renault acquired a 50% stake in it. JMEV has sold over 100.000 vehicles since its inception, with the ELIGHT model now available on the Serbian market at a price of around 36.000 euro.
