TESSA Energy has commissioned a new cogeneration plant at the former “Skopje North” heating plant in North Macedonia. The first phase of the project is valued at 2.5 million euros and provides 2.1 MW of electrical and 2.6 MW of thermal capacity, BalkanEngineer.com learned from MKNews Hub. The new facility operates with two high-efficiency gas engines that simultaneously produce electrical and thermal energy.

According to information from North Macedonia’s Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, the total energy efficiency reaches 90%, with the residual heat from electricity generation fed into the Energy Ecolink system. It is expected to provide domestic hot water to approximately 500 households and 14 institutions in the municipalities of Chair and Butel.
The investment is the first phase of a larger-scale modernization of “Skopje North,” which TESSA Energy will take over in 2024. The company plans to transform the existing infrastructure into a center for combined heat and power generation. The next phase calls for a new investment of approximately 10 million euros. The plans include the construction of another cogeneration plant with an installed capacity of 10.5 MW, which will increase local electricity production and add new capacity to Skopje’s district heating system.
TESSA Energy is part of the TESSA Group, which operates in the field of energy and technology infrastructure. The new cogeneration plant is the first facility of its kind that the company has commissioned in North Macedonia.
