HTEC, a software company founded in Serbia and based in the United States, is continuing its expansion in Europe after announcing the acquisition of Czech engineering company CertiCon, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from an HTEC announcement. The deal, the value of which has not been publicly disclosed, is backed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with which HTEC maintains a long-term partnership.

The deal is extremely important for HTEC, given that the company has been aiming for years to strengthen its presence in the European Union market and expand its portfolio in three of its most dynamic industries - medical technology, automotive and smart manufacturing. Through the acquisition, HTEC will integrate into its team an additional 350 highly qualified specialists from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, bringing the company's headcount to approximately 2,850 employees. According to HTEC co-founder and CEO Alexander Cabrillo, the merger with CertiCon opens up new horizons for innovation and sustainable development.
CertiCon is a well-known name in Central Europe, especially in the healthcare, embedded software and industrial automation sectors. The company provides comprehensive digital solutions and stands out for its many years of experience in applying high-tech systems in sensitive sectors such as medical diagnostics and intelligent production lines.
HTEC, for its part, is among the fastest growing technology companies in the Balkans. Founded in 2008 in Belgrade, it has briefly grown into a global engineering services provider, with headquarters in Palo Alto, California, and consulting centers in the UK, Germany, Spain and several other countries in Southeast Europe.
The acquisition of CertiCon is just part of HTEC's intention for a major European expansion. Back in 2020, the company received its first EBRD loan of 12 million euro, co-funded by the Enterprise Expansion Fund (ENEF), to acquire Serbia's Execom, and in 2022, the EBRD again supported HTEC's growth with another investment - this time of 55 million euro.
