The label performs numerous functions that go far beyond pure packaging aesthetics. In the context of intensive international trade, it is a mechanism for communication with partners and regulators, a tool for automation of logistic processes and – in the literal sense – a guarantee that goods will cross borders and supply chains without unnecessary delays. For Bulgarian exporters, this reality places requirements on production and packaging – the label must be correct, readable, structured according to the established standards and logistically supported by processes that ensure traceability and quick response if necessary. In this context, the company Weber Label Bulgaria has long proven itself to be a loyal and high-tech partner. The company is a joint venture of Weber Marking Systems, a member of the Bluhm Weber Group, and the Bulgarian company SIS 45 and specializes in the production and sale of self-adhesive labels for marking and tracking products. This defines their proposals as a combination of international experience and regional coverage, a strategic advantage for exporters seeking a quick response and compliance with foreign requirements.

Regulations and Standards – What Is the Importance of Proper Label

Labelling introduces the item into a regulatory system that determines whether a product can reach the market at all. The European market operates under a strict framework of mandatory and sectoral features, from the CE mark and energy labels to specific requirements for food, textiles, cosmetics and chemicals. In other words, the path of the product to the consumer goes through regulatory verification, which begins with the label. "The label is the first document that customs and regulatory authorities check. If important information is missing or is not presented in the expected format and language, the shipment may be delayed, returned or subject to correction. Especially in the export of food, cosmetics and chemicals, any mistake in the designation of ingredients, allergens or deadlines can lead to withdrawal from the market and serious financial damage," Weber Bulgaria commented to Engineer.bg.

The regulatory framework is coordinated at the level of the European Commission, which defines the requirements for labels, markings and traceability through directives and regulations. The Commission keeps up-to-date manuals and electronic safety systems (such as Safety Gate/RAPEX) that require clear identification and traceability of the origin of each product category. "For businesses, this means compliance with legal requirements, but also risk management - through the label, the manufacturer proves compliance, traceability and safety," the company said. Weber Label Bulgaria supports its customers to implement solutions that meet EU requirements and at the same time are optimized for the specific production and logistics environment.

In this system, standardization plays a central role. The GS1 standards – GTIN for commercial units, SSCC for transport packages and GS1-128 for encoding data such as batch, shelf life and country of origin – have been adopted as a common language between manufacturers, traders and customs. They enable machine reading, automated inspection, and seamless passage of goods through the logistics chain. "GS1 standards are the backbone of traceability. Thus, each shipment can be traced from production to the end user without loss of information and without the risk of processing errors," Weber Label Bulgaria emphasized.
