North Macedonia is advancing its renewable energy program by building two photovoltaic power plants in its technology-industrial zones, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Mia.mk. With a total capacity approaching 8 MW, these installations represent a significant step towards strengthening the country's energy infrastructure and advancing environmental sustainability.
Turkish firm Fides Elektrik Enerjisi has been selected as the contractor for the new photovoltaic power plants in northern Macedonia, and under the terms, the company must distribute 10% of its revenues to the national treasury, boosting both energy production and fiscal stability.
The partnership with the Turkish company will last for 25 years, culminating in the transfer of ownership of the solar plants to the state, which will consolidate North Macedonia's energy sovereignty with nearly 80% production capacity. The land on which these plants are located remains under state jurisdiction, with the private partner obliged to pay an annual rental fee.
In the future, North Macedonia is ready to expand its PV infrastructure into additional industrial zones. This strategic move provides a use for unused land, and at the same time underlines the country's commitment to renewable energy solutions as a cornerstone of its future development.
