Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic has announced the country's intention to start negotiations with Azerbaijan to build a 1 GW gas power plant in the city of Nis, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from serbianmonitor.com. The project, estimated at $1.2 billion to $1.3 billion, aims to guarantee a stable power supply for Serbia over the next 12 years.
Vucic said the issue will be discussed during the COP29 International Climate Conference in Baku, where the financing of renewable energy sources and the accelerated development of small modular nuclear reactors will also be considered. These measures are aimed at achieving energy independence more quickly.
The President underlined that trade relations between Serbia and Azerbaijan have increased thirty times compared to previous years, especially in the energy, gas supply and equipment sectors.
