The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will provide financial support for the construction of a state-of-the-art national street surveillance system in Albania, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from a statement by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. This important step towards enhancing the security of Albanian citizens will include the installation of smart cameras and radar systems on the country's main thoroughfares. The project is part of a wider initiative to modernise law enforcement in Albania.
"We have agreed the funding through the Abu Dhabi Development Fund. We will start implementing the project soon and plan to complete it step by step within 20 months," Rama said, without disclosing the specific cost of the funding. The project will cover the main urban areas as well as smaller localities, with the aim of creating a comprehensive CCTV system to improve public safety.
The use of smart cameras and other advanced surveillance technologies will not only provide better control of the road network, but will also create new opportunities to fight crime in Albania. The technologies to be deployed will enable automatic recognition of faces and vehicle number plates, thus speeding up the processes of detection and apprehension of criminals and wanted persons.
