Founded in 1942 in Copenhagen, Denmark, DEVI quickly established itself as a global market leader in electric heating products, solutions, and systems. Since 2003, it has been part of the high-tech giant Danfoss and it currently operates as an independent commercial and manufacturing unit. In an exclusive interview with Engineer.bg, engineer Boyan Koussarov, Sales Manager Export Electric Heating Systems at DEVI by Danfoss for Eastern Europe region (Export Markets), discusses the company’s history, its products and applications, as well as the industry’s trends and main challenges.
Hello, Mr. Koussarov! Could you introduce yourself to the readers of Engineer.bg?
Hello! My name is Boyan Koussarov, I was born and I live in Sofia. I am an engineer by education with a Master’s degree in Thermal Engineering from the Technical University of Sofia. I also have a specialization in Business Finance. I have been working at Danfoss for eight years, holding various positions primarily in the company’s Bulgarian subsidiary. Since 1st March of this year, I’ve been responsible for the electric heating business, leading the sales and marketing department in Eastern Europe for DEVI by Danfoss.
Last year, our business was restructured into an independent commercial and manufacturing entity that is part of Danfoss Climate Solutions.
What regions do you oversee, and what part of DEVI by Danfoss’ product range is offered there?
The Eastern Europe region (Export Markets), which I manage, includes all Eastern European countries except Poland – Ukraine, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Adriatic cluster (the former Yugoslav states), Bulgaria, and Romania. In this region we have commercial offices in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Romania.
In all these markets, we offer the full product portfolio of DEVI by Danfoss. In some countries, our products are available under several brands that are also part of DEVI by Danfoss. The main product categories include solutions for indoor and outdoor cabling, mats, controls, sensors, and a full range of accessories for securing and mounting our systems.
Our products are mainly designed for two types of applications: outdoor applications, such as ice and snow prevention and de-icing systems, as well as indoor applications, like electric underfloor heating for residential buildings, hotels, office spaces, and more. Another area we focus on is heating cables and systems for pipe frost protection.
Historically, how did the DEVI brand emerge, and when did it join the Danfoss Group?
DEVI is a Danish company that began in 1942, it was established in Copenhagen and later relocated its operations to Vejle. It started manufacturing heating cables for industrial systems. The company’s modern production peak occurred in 1985 after moving to Vejle. Over the years, our business expanded globally, with our products reaching markets on every continent. Today, we are one of the leading manufacturers on the European market. We are working to enter new locations where we are not yet represented by optimizing our portfolio for all relevant market segments that require this type of action on our part.
After the working period in Vejle, DEVI’s current operational activity is mainly outsourced to Poland, where most of our production takes place at Danfoss’ campus. From there, the finished products are shipped to central distribution centres and then delivered to specific markets and customers.
DEVI became part of the Danfoss Group on 1st January 2003, with the integration process occurring in stages during the years. Today, we are a “carve-out” business within the Danfoss holding and the Danfoss Climate Solutions segment, operating as an independent commercial and manufacturing entity.
Stay tuned for the continuation of our conversation with Mr Boyan Koussarov, Sales Manager Export Electric Heating Systems at DEVI by Danfoss for Eastern Europe, in Engineer.bg’s upcoming materials!
