The Swedish furniture manufacturer and retailer IKEA was granted permission to build its second store in Romania, BalkanEngineer.com learned from information of Romania-Insider.com. With a total built-up area of about 37 000 m2, it will be the largest IKEA store in Southeastern Europe.
"The main contractor of the project is the local company Bog'art, which has already begun preparatory activities on the site and the fencing of the new IKEA store perimeter," said IKEA’s CEO for Southeast Europe. The new facility will be open at the end of 2018. The project costs around 80 million euro, including the land expenses.
The Swedish company currently maintains a store in Baneasa area in northern Bucharest, with an area of 26 000 m2, which is being visited by about three million people annually. For the year 2017 only IKEA has opened 14 new stores worldwide.
