Alstom, a world leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has opened an Alstom Grivita Depot in Bucharest, Romania, BalkanEngineer.com learned from the company's website. The facility is the first of its kind in the country and is designed specifically for the maintenance and testing of electric trains and locomotives. The opening of the depot coincides with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Alstom's activity in Romania.

The Grivita depot is now operational, with the first electric train (EMU) of a 37-train order for the Authority for Rail Reform (ARF) currently undergoing a series of rigorous tests. They are essential to obtain a market certificate and guarantee that the train meets the strict European and national standards.

Gabriel Stanciu, Alstom's Managing Director for Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, emphasized the importance of the depot, which reinforces the international company's commitment to the Romanian market, but also sets a benchmark in Alstom's efforts to maintain modern and efficient rail transport systems. Roberto Saccione, managing director of Alstom Services for the same region, added that the depot has state-of-the-art technology, including a digital control room for fleet management. According to Saccione, this is the first modern depot built in Romania in the last three decades, equipped to match or even surpass the best facilities in the world.

Grivita Depot will create approximately 50 new jobs, with new employees receiving specialized training to handle the increased operational demands of the facility. This initiative is part of Alstom's wider investment in Romania, where the company already employs over 1,500 people and plays a crucial role in major infrastructure projects, including the development of metro systems and the deployment of city signaling solutions.
