One of the world's leading players in the coffee and tea industry, Jacobs Dow Egberts (JDE), has announced an ambitious plan to expand and modernize its plant in Bulgaria, BalkanEngineer.com has learned. The €5 million investment is aimed at increasing production capacity and reducing carbon emissions.
The production site in Kostinbrod, Bulgaria, purchased in 2001 by JDE and undergoing modernization, today serves 18 European markets. The production expansion will create 10 new jobs.
The manager of the plant, Ivan Ivanov, said that the focus of the investment is not only on increasing the production capacity, but also on minimizing the negative impact on the environment. This coincides with global business trends where companies are increasingly striving for sustainable practices. The plant will also introduce innovative technologies, one of the major achievements being the installation of 820 solar panels, which meet 12% of the plant's energy needs. This is an important step towards the use of 100% renewable energy sources.
Mila Nenova, assistant director of the Bulgarian Investment Agency, noted that these innovations and investments are essential not only for business, but also for the future of Bulgaria, as they contribute to the fight against climate change and create a green working environment.
The honorary opening of the project was honored by the presence of the ambassadors of the USA and the Netherlands, as well as the mayor of Kostenbrod, which emphasizes the importance of this investment for the local community and for the relations between the countries.
