Turkish holding company Yildirim is interested in acquiring North Macedonian ferronickel producer Euronickel Industries (formerly Feni Industries), which is currently owned by local lender Komercijalna Banka, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from SeeNews.com. Other companies are also interested in buying the North Macedonian company, including local metal products manufacturer IGM Trade.
Komercijalna Banka said it has acquired ownership of EUR37.9 million (USD41.6 million) worth of Euronickel Industries' assets through a foreclosure procedure. The bank is the main creditor of Euronickel Industries, which has been facing operational difficulties stemming from high energy costs and falling orders. The factory currently employs more than 800 people.
Euronickel Industries owes about €87 million to its creditors at the end of 2022, and the company was acquired by Switzerland-based private equity fund Global Special Opportunities Ltd (GSOL) in 2019.
