Serbia and Romania concluded a memorandum of understanding at the beginning of August this year regarding the construction of the natural gas interconnector Recaș – Mokrin, BalkanEngineer.com learned from Romania-insider.com. The project is worth 87 million euro.
The document was signed by the energy ministers of Serbia and Romania in the presence of the general director of the Romanian state operator of the gas transmission system Transgaz. The interconnector will be 97 km long and will pass mainly through Romanian territory, where a measuring station will also be constructed.
According to Transgaz, the estimated date of commissioning is 2028, with a two-way capacity of 1.2 billion m3 per year. In the future, it is planned that Romania and Serbia would also work on the modernization of an interconnection for hydrogen transfer, estimated at 143.8 million euro. Currently, this project is still in conceptual phase, with a possible completion date of 2040.
