The government of Serbia has signed a framework agreement with China Energy International Group for the construction of a modern oil refinery in Smederevo, BalkanEngineer.com has learned from Telegraf.rs. The agreement, which is in effect for two years, outlines a construction and commissioning schedule for the facility of approximately four years after obtaining the necessary building permits.
The project represents an investment of nearly 2.4 billion euros and is expected to create 700 permanent jobs and indirectly support an additional 2,400 positions. Ownership and operating responsibilities will be with Chinese oil company China Energy International.
The facilities and equipment for the new refinery will be completely new, and the expected capacity will reach 100,000 barrels per day. This ambitious project aims to strengthen Serbia's energy infrastructure and economic stability while promoting international cooperation.
